What is Play Therapy?Play therapy is a form of physical therapy which deals with children with delayed milestones or developmental disabilities. Play therapy can help individuals Communicate, explore repressed thoughts and emotions, address unresolved trauma and experience personal growth and is widely viewed as an important, effective, and developmentally appropriate for overall child development
During treatment session, the therapist creates a comfortable, safe environment in which the child is allowed to play with minimum limitations. This session space is often referred to as a playroom, and it is equipped with specifically chosen toys that are meant to encourage the child to express his or her feelings and develop better behaviors. Toys used in therapy may include a sand-tray, Clay, water pool, other constructive toys, costumes or other clothing, teddies, dolls, puppets, others indoor games. Sometimes therapist includes music also in the session.
Who does Play Therapy?
Any habilitation professionals with specialized training in play therapy can provide this facility. Specialized play therapy is generally provided by qualified developmental therapist, early intervention specialist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist and special educators.
